I’m in L.A.!

It feels weird to be watching the Oscars at 5:30pm, but that’s what I’m doing, in a Hampton Inn in Arcadia. My plane landed at 9:30AM Pacific and so far I’ve eaten my body weight in INTENSELY GOOD dim sum (dim sum so good, we waited 45 minutes for a table.) and toured Huntington Gardens. I saw a bunch of famous paintings I didn’t understand and wished my mother was with me to yak at me about the beautiful flowers I don’t fully appreciate. In an hour or so it’s Chinese Food Part Deux as Yao’s mom’s classmate takes us out to eat Xiaolongbao.

Tomorrow is The Price is Right. Everyone cross your fingers that I get on TV, don’t look too much fatter on TV, don’t make a fool out of myself on TV, and win some fucking money.

This tiny bag is my entire life now. After years of lugging around suitcase-sized satchels filled with cough medicine and planners and extra bobby-pins and a pair of socks (YOU NEVER KNOW), I cannot express how liberating it is to be able to fit everything I need to survive into this soft little purse. IDs (I have two because I get drunk and lose them a lot), a credit card, a small wallet, one lipgloss, my iPhone, a pocket mirror, and a pen. Anything else is just clutter!

Today I was standing in the Attorney line at court (being a Paralegal, I don’t have to wait for service like you civilian peons), drinkin’ a Dr. Pepper, waiting for my girl Leslie to finish filing a divorce for me, and she leans over the counter and whispers, “You wanna hear the awesome drama today?”

Yes. Yes I do. “See all those Sheriff’s Deputys over there? They’re standing guard because over in the waiting room we have AN ENTIRE STREET GANG filing an injunction against harrassment against another gang.”

…I almost choked on my Dr. Pepper.

“Wait. The WHOLE gang is in there? FILING AN INJUNCTION? Do they have attorneys?”

“Nope. This is all their idea.”

I know it’s not the best picture, I was busy plating - but you get the idea.

Sunday we had an impromptu cookout of sorts due to 9’s craving for fresh burgers and fries - a restaurant just would not do. I was in charge of the burgers, that eventually became sliders and 9 had the fries. Veronica brought 3 kinds of potato salad, Jenna was in charge of beer and Danny coincidently showed up so he didn’t get a job.

Burgers: Top sirloin (salt, pepper, cilantro), caramelized onions, avacado, herbed goat cheese on a potato roll

Fresh oven baked fries: 2 potatoes cut, covered in olive oil, salt pepper and cilantro

I’d say the food turned out pretty damn good and it was a successful Sunday afternoon - definitely more potlucks/cookouts to come.
