When you think about it, the Rambo movies are actually pretty sad. Here is this dude who comes back from the disaster of a war in Vietnam, clearly suffers from an acute mental illness because of it, and is trying to lead a new, normal life as an ex-special forces soldier. Then these fucking redneck assholes have to provoke him instead of trying to get him the psychiatric help and medication he obviously needs, and in doing so, he freaks out and kills them all. If that happened in real life, the news would be running 12 different specials on how veterans’ healthcare sucks, and how safe are YOU from post traumatic stress disorders? But in Movieland they just let him retreat back into the jungles of Thailand, only to reappear every 5 years or so to remind the world of the cost of war.
