Black empowered female who knows who she is and wants food

“To sum up - what do you do with those people who just don’t get your subtle hints that you don’t want to talk about dieting? The ones who just keep insisting on making their diet the common topic, as though they are seeking compliments and are determined to pry them out of you through pure stubbornness if nothing else. The ones who invite you to dinner and serve you diet food and make sure you know how many Weight Watchers points are in EVERYTHING.”

Since I’m on the whole chubby/skinny train of thought today: I loathe talking about people’s diets/gyms/exercise programs. To me, it’s like a conversation about what your shit looked like this morning. It’s a part of your daily life, sure, but it’s way too personal, and I don’t really care about it, and I’m much happier if we don’t talk about it, either. And for some reason, I guess because I’m chubby(ish, I don’t know, who cares), I look like I care about it, as if because I have a gut, I want to compare workout stats with people and trade healthy recipes. Trying to change the subject, or being honest about my general weight-loss apathy comes off as unsupportive(or worse— UNHEALTHY, gasp). But constantly indulging my friends’ diet/gym-obsession (in my opinion) makes me feel dirty sometimes, like I’m lying to them, and to myself, to fit in.

I guess I just don’t like the propensity for it to turn in to Girl Against Girl. I see it in my friends group all the time. If one girl goes to the gym for 30 minutes, the next day another girl will go for an hour. And then they brag about it.

Besides, does anyone ever leave these conversations feeling better about their body image?
